Difference between Roaming & International Calling

Do you ever wonder if you are making an “International call” or you are simply “Roaming”? Do not despair, if many of you feel that their blog has lost its original zeal and direction, you are definitely not the only ones. A lot of people often tend to confuse between these two terms and I didn’t gamble,;  Well, you are reading this in order to get the facts cleared, and we will do that in the most entertaining way.

Well, now that you know what tethering is let us look at what roaming entails:

You are on your business trip to another country which should be fun as it’s considered a vacation (or so they say). You land, turn off ‘airplane mode’ and… it spoils you! But Michael, does your phone work you still use it, you know the Nokia one, the blue one? That’s roaming!

Roaming occurs when one goes to another country and his or her phone gets a signal of the new country’s cellular service provider to enable one to make a call, text or use data. But stay on your guard, these roaming fees can be a nasty suprise just like the plot twist in your favorite soap opera!

In short, roaming means:

To ‘roam’, or make calls with your phone in a country other than the one where your home network company operates.

Your provider piggy backs onto a foreign network so that you keep connected.

It can be expensive and not to mention those unnoticeable but expensive roaming charges!

What About International Calling?

Next up, let’s describe international calling. Suppose you are well settled in your chair at home and you decide to call your friend who is in the other part of the world. This is where international calling comes in play!

International calling refers to a situation whereby you are dialing a number that belongs to the international network. One does not have to move an inch, your call simply switches to another country. These calls may also attract a fee higher that that of the local ones, but you are still on the home network thus no roaming.

In short, international calling means:

Placing a call to somebody in another country (but not having to travel).

It flies over the countries without even a passport as far as the call is concerned.

You may get charged extra, but you really cannot compare it to the old days of roaming charges.

 Roaming: This is the situation: You are holding your phone while in a foreign country. This may feel something like your phone shutting down unexpectedly and going on its little ‘holiday’ on overnight charge!

Charges: There are different roaming charges according to the usage of the phone in the foreign country. Such costs vary based on which country is being dialled to.
