The gray arrow will suggest you ever thought about how your video calls do not leak even when the transmitted across the internet? It's all thanks to a magical ingredient called WebRTC and its secret weapon: encryption!

What is WebRTC?

Using WebRTC if like having a superhero in the area of real time communication. It is the technology that is implemented in video calls, screen sharing and other awesome things on website and applications. But how does it keeping your conversations safe?

The Encryption Enigma

WebRTC relies on an effective method known as Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol (SRTP) to encrypt your data. This means your voice; your video and your messages will be encrypted in a virtual language that only the recipient will understand.

Here's how it works:

Key Exchange: In addition, before the call commences, the devices in question exchange shared secret keys. It will be a sort of a secret greeting so that only those who are allowed into the discussion will be able to see it.

Data Encryption: After the keys are exchanged all the media data –audio, video text etc are encrypted using robust cryptography system. It’s like keeping your information in a secure strong room that no other person can access without authority.

Tamper Detection: SRTP also has provisions for detection of any attempt to tap into the data or in other way compromise it. This is like calling having a security guard follow up on your call throughout the day and night.

Why Encryption Matters

Privacy: This means your conversations still go on unsaid, even if they are spied on.

Security: Refers to the privacy of your data and prevent hackers and eavesdroppers to intrude.

Integrity: Verifies whether the data that has been collected had undergone any changes or loss when transmission was underway.

So the next time you are FaceTime with a friend, or having a video conferencing with a colleague, you can thank WebRTC and encryption out loud. That is the piece that makes the communication secure and safe.

Let's recap the key points:

It is interdisciplinary technology for web real-time communication.

S RTP is the encryption issue that provides security to your calls.

SRTP is constructed of key exchange, data encryption, and data integrity check.

Secure messaging protects the confidentiality, confidentiality and authenticity of your data.
